With the first week of Premier League matches all wrapped it’s time to look ahead at the next weekend for week 2 predictions. Week two kicks off on Saturday followed by an additional two matches on Sunday and rounding out the weekend with a Monday match. To start, let’s briefly review the week 1 results.
Chelsea’s opening match against Burnley was an absolute disaster for them while the Manchester clubs both picked up their expected wins to start the campaign. While United may currently be at the top of the table, Man City are still favorites to end the season as Champions.
Arsenal looked like they were going to sputter in the opening match of the season, but somehow managed to storm back for the win. Liverpool were another team expected to start the season strong in their match against a Watford team that I’ve predicted for relegation. Instead their defense gave up 3 goals and they were left to share a draw.
In one of the shock results for the weekend, Huddersfield took all 3 points with their 3-0 away win against Crystal Palace. This was certainly the second the most shocking result of the weekend behind Burnley’s away win against Chelsea.
Week 2 Predictions:
|Saturday, August 19|
|7:30/12:30||Swansea City||0||v||2||Manchester United|| 0 – 4
|10:00/15:00||Leicester City||2||v||0||Brighton|| 2 – 0
|Sunday, August 20|
|8:30/13:30||Huddersfield||2||v||1||Newcastle||1 – 0|
I’m predicting wins from most of the home teams with a few exceptions. In week 1, three of the home teams lost with two draws as well. I’m expecting that Manchester United and Arsenal will have enough to get past their opposition while on the road.
Of the excitement surrounding Burnley and their initial win of the season against Chelsea I’m expecting both Burnley and Chelsea to draw this week due to their opposition. While I’m predicting a 0-0 draw in the London derby, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a few goals scored. In the other match, I would expect West Brom to score before Burnley despite the 3 goals they scored in week 1.
I’m sure it will be an exciting and eventful weekend in which several of my predictions prove to be wildly wrong mostly due to the lack of useful statistics at this early point in the season. Still, I’m sure it will all be fun to watch all the same.
