Manchester United Boosted In Chase For £110,000-A-Week Star, His Club Ready To Sell

Last January and the summer before, Manchester United were strongly linked with the signing of Chelsea midfielder Willian, but the Blues stood their ground and kept the player. If reports today are to be believed, United boss Jose Mourinho may finally get his wish as Chelsea are said to be interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Lucas Moura. Should they be successful, the Premier League champions would be open to selling Willian to Manchester United or any other club who is interested in signing the Brazilian.

Willian was a key player for Chelsea under Mourinho but has been reduced to a bit-part player for under current boss Antonio Conte. Although he has played 17 times under the Italian coach this season, most of these have been as a substitute, as Conte has mainly preferred Pedro to him, whenever the Spaniard has been fit. Last season Willian was given just 15 starts in the Premier League. His situation must have been what made Mourinho believe he had a chance of signing him from Chelsea, which subsequently led to the reported late move for the former £110,000-a-week Shakthar Donetsk player by Manchester United, during last summer’s transfer window.

United could however get their man this winter if you believe French media outlet Le 10 Sport, who reckon Chelsea are likely to sell him if they are able to bring in a replacement in Moura. Willian signing would be a very interesting move for the Red Devils. It would be interesting to see what would happen to Anthony Martial should Mourinho sign Willian. The Portuguese coach is obviously a big fan of Willian, and from all indications, he’s not too keen on Martial, which means Willian could be coming to United to take Martial’s place in the team.

Could this potential transfer merry-go-round see Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger land Anthony Martial? Arsenal have been linked with the signing of the former AS Monaco star and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they manage to get him in the winter – depending on whether Mourinho could be convinced to sanction such a deal with a Premier League rival.
