Manchester United started this season like a house on fire. Emphatic wins against the likes of West Ham, Swansea, Everton, Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and Basel and CSKA Moscow in the Champions League saw many naming them as potential winners of not just the Premier League, but also the Champions League as well. But the moment Paul Pogba went down injured, United lost form.
In fact they only scored seven goals in all competitions in the month of October – a month in which they played seven games. Pogba is now reportedly close to a return to the team having recently returned back to training. According to reports, the former Juventus star could even make his return this weekend when Manchester United take on Newcastle United at home. Paul Pogba was reportedly training with United’s reserve team but has now joined the first team, which could well mean he is fit enough to start or at least play some part in this weekend’s clash.
Also back in training is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been out with an injury since April this year. Zlatan is said to be training with the ball again. The Sun reckon both Zlatan and Pogba are pushing for a place on United’s bench for this weekend’s match. However, it would make sense if Jose Mourinho avoids the temptation of involving either for this weekend’s match, especially with the busy month of December on the horizon.
Mourinho will need all of his key men fit for the month of December if he doesn’t want to fall further behind Premier League leaders Manchester City. He simply can’t afford risking Pogba and Zlatan against Newcastle as the team would be worst off if one or both of them suffer a set back as a result of impatience.
