Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has never hidden the fact that he doesn’t like Luke Shaw. Aside from the fact that the former Southampton star hardly gets a chance in the first team, he was heavily criticised by the United boss last season as well. The Red Devils have been linked with the signing of various left-backs in recent times; one of which has been Tottenham’s Danny Rose. This was an indication that there is no way back for Shaw at Manchester United, under Mourinho.
And if you believe a report by the Sun, Jose Mourinho is already working discreetly to bring Tottenham’s Danny Rose to Old Trafford in January. A Sun newspaper source was quoted as saying:
“It is not secret that Jose likes Rose. He is looking to make a move for him in January when the window opens.
“He could prove difficult to get though as Tottenham do not like dealing with United. It all depends on money at the end of the day.”
The highly-rated left-back last summer criticised the management of Tottenham for a lack of ambition and for not paying he and his team mates what they deserve in terms of wages. It is widely believed that he will be open to leaving the North London club should the right offer be made for his services.
So if the report of United’s interest is true, then I believe it is a matter of when and not if the player will be joining the Red Devils. Although Manchester United have not won the Premier League for a couple of years now, they are still winning more trophies than Tottenham. Danny Rose, Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and the rest of the current Tottenham stars are yet to win a single trophy with the club as their last title came via the League Cup in 2008 – nine years ago.
The only problem for United will now be convincing Daniel Levy to sell the player to them, especially as Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with his signing. Levy will most certainly prefer to sell the player outside England and that would be a problem for United.
