In news that could be a massive boost for Arsenal in their bid to keep Alexis Sanchez at the club, Pep Guardiola is said to have made contact with Antoine Griezmann over the possibility of a move to Manchester City next summer. It was reported earlier this week that Barcelona had reached an agreement with the player ahead of a move to Nou Camp at the end of the season.
It now appears Manchester City believe they have a chance of snatching him from Barcelona instead. And they sure could have a chance if you believe pro-Barca paper Sport (as covered by The SUN ) who reckon the La Liga leaders only consider Griezmann as a backup option should their move for Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho fail.
Griezmann was close to joining Manchester United last summer but for a FIFA transfer ban slammed on Atletico Madrid and affirmed by CAS which meant Atleti would not have been able to sign a replacement had they sold the Frenchman. United have since then been linked with him a couple of times with many media outlets reporting the Red Devils will again make a move for the former Real Sociedad player once the summer transfer window opens.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the signing of the French star, as have Chelsea and Arsenal. Should City get Griezmann, they certainly won’t be needing Alexis Sanchez, and with Bayern Munich and PSG looking like they have cooled their interest in the player, Arsenal may all of a sudden now have a chance to keep their star player, unless other big clubs become interested.
If City do sign Griezmann, they will then have Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus and Griezmann up front – certainly no need for Sanchez, especially as they also have Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling who play in the other positions that Sanchez plays.
