Although Wenger on Saturday claimed Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez love the club and both will like to say should the right contract offer be made to them, it is generally believed that both players will either leave this winter or next summer. Sanchez in particular seems tired of being an Arsenal player and wants out – well judging by his body language so far this season.
City were thought to be signing the Chilean in the summer, but Arsenal stopped the deal at the last minute after failing in their own attempt to sign Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco. City are thought to be ready to make another move for the South American in the January transfer window, but they may have Real Madrid to contend with for the signature of the former Barca star.
The European champions have struggled for goals this season. Cristiano Ronaldo, who they often depend on for goals, has only scored one goal and two assists in La Liga this season and eight goals plus three assists in all competitions. Marco Asensio is Real Madrid’s highest goal scorer so far this season with eight goals and two assists in all competitions. The lack of goals has seen Real Madrid fall ten points behind runaway leaders Barca.
Madrid want to solve the goalscoring problem in the winter, and will aim to sign Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan. The sale of Alvaro Morata to Chelsea last summer seems to be a bad move for Real Madrid. According to reports, Madrid are ready to bid £30m for Sanchez in January, which judging by the player’s contractual situation may be accepted by Arsenal.
The Gunners may be more open to selling Sanchez to Real Madrid in January, rather than selling to Manchester City or any English club in the same month, or risk losing him on a free transfer once his contract expires in the summer.
Sanchez reportedly currently earns £140,000 a week at Arsenal, and will be looking for more than double that amount in what could be his last big contract considering his age.
