Arsenal have some injury concerns going into tomorrow’s Europa League clash away from home against German side FC Cologne. Shkodran Mustafi returned to the side in the North London derby last weekend and scored after a long lay off. The German will likely be called upon when Arsenal play again this week.
Another player likely to return to the team after an injury lay off is David Ospina. The Colombian has been out of action for over a month due to a groin injury. In his absence, Arsene Wenger has played youngster Matt Macey. The 23-year-old was in goal for Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Red Star Belgrade on 2 November, while Petr Cech played in goal in the 0-1 defeat of the Serbian team two weeks before that.
Ospina is now likely to be recalled to the team on Thursday, but Theo Walcott, who Physio Room reckon is suffering from an illness, and Olivier Giroud, could also miss out as a result of the knee injury he sustained while on national team duty with France during the last international break.
Jack Wilshere is also likely to be available unless something happens in training just before the match. The England international has struggled in the last two years with injuries but it seems that’s now fully behind him and we expect Arsene Wenger to play him against Cologne on Thursday, while Mesut Ozil is given some rest.
Danny Welbeck could also play a part in the game. The former Manchester United attacker has been sidelined since 16 October due to a groin strain, but was on the bench against Tottenham over the weekend and could be a starter against Cologne tomorrow.
