Granit Xhaka has been woefully out of form so far this season but Wenger hasn’t been able to drop him. And rightly so. Were Wenger to drop the Switzerland international, his only other option will be to play Coquelin and Ramsey together or Wilshere and Ramsey neither of which is not ideal. Coquelin is a largely average player, who should not even be playing for a big club like Arsenal – no disrespect to the Frenchman but that’s a fact. Playing a Wilshere/Ramsey combo is a disaster waiting to happen.
Both Wilshere and Ramsey are attack minded players and if Wenger plays them together, especially in big matches against the top 6 in the league, Arsenal’s defence will be massively exposed. For this reason, it is safe to say Arsenal could do with signing another central defensive midfielder. It seems like Wenger agrees and he has been working hard to sign someone for Arsenal. According to reports, the Gunners are ready to sign midfielder Jakub Jankto from Udinese for around €30m.
The 21-year-old has been one of Udinese’s best players this season and his wonderful performances in their colours have not gone unnoticed. AC Milan are also said to be interested in signing him. But it seems due to lack of funds, Milan have relaxed their interest in the player which means Arsenal are clear to sign him if they can agree a fee with his club, and personal terms with the player himself.
Jakub Jankto, who is from the Czech Republic, has been capped by his country 11 times and in those eleven games has scored one goal and created two assists. He is not a glamourous player in that he prefers to defend more than attack, which is something the Gunners could do with. For the reported price of €30m, Arsenal will be getting a quality player at a very cheap price, considering the inflation in the transfer market.
His signing could spell the end of Francis Coquelin at Arsenal as the Frenchman’s already limited first team chances will be further reduced.
