Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat of FK Qarabag away from home on Tuesday means the Blues are most likely to top UEFA Champions League Group C. Although AS Roma are just two points behind Chelsea and are very likely to beat Qarabag at home, unless Chelsea lose by a heavy score, they are certainly going to top the group. And that means Antonio Conte and his men can now concentrate on the Premier League, at least for now.
Their next match is away to Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend. Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League table with 25 points after 12 games. They will know if they want to stand a chance of catching Manchester City, who currently have nine points more than them, they have to go on a winning run.
A win against Liverpool will go a long way in not only keeping the pressure on City but also enhance the Blues’ chance of a top four finish at the end of the season. Chelsea have some injury doubts ahead of the match however.
Michy Batshuayi is still out with an injury and a return date has not been set yet. Charly Musonda and Kenedy, who are not likely to play a part in the match anyway, are also out of the clash. Victor Moses is back to full fitness and could play a part against Liverpool which would be interesting.
In the absence of Victor Moses, Conte has played Davide Zappacosta, who has done well, and it remains to be seen if he will allow the £23million summer signing to continue with Moses, who was first choice before his injury, starting from the bench.
