Premier League results and Highlights

Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights from the EPL Fixture between Southampton v Newcastle United on Sunday, November 25, 2012.

Result: Southampton 2 – 0 Newcastle United

Location: St. Mary’s Stadium – Southampton

Southampton – 2 Newcastle – 0
Adam Lallana (34’)
Gaston Ramirez (60’)

My prediction was a 2 – 1 Southampton win. With Newcastle’s injuries, particularly to key players, they will continue to struggle. Southampton were the better team and were finally able to shut down another team’s offense.

Southampton should have had 2 fairly clear penalties that were not given, but they still did plenty to get the win. They had several more very good chances that went off the woodwork while Newcastle struggled to do much offensively. They did have one excellent chance with Vernon Anita through on the keeper, but he only managed to shoot straight at Paulo Gazzaniga.

Southampton could have (probably should have) won this by 5 or 6, but had some close chances missed including Adam Lallana through on Tim Krul only to shoot directly at the keeper. Either way, Newcastle looked slack and struggled to get anything at either end. Jay Rodriguez thought he had his first Premier League goal to wrap up the match in the 89th minute only to have his goal wrongly disallowed through offsides. A bad call, but at least it didn’t affect the outcome.

Southampton now have back to back wins and will be hoping to keep this going when Norwich visits midweek. Their third win of the season now moves them out of the bottom three and into 17th place, with 11 points, above Aston Villa (who drop down with 10 points) and just below Sunderland (12 points).
