|West Ham United – 3||Chelsea – 1|
|Carlton Cole (63’)||Juan Mata (13’)|
|Carlton Cole (86’)|
|Modibo Maiga (90’+1’)|
This was a game of two halves for both teams. First half Chelsea was dominant, but yet still only able to get the one goal through Juan Mata in the 13th minute. Fernando Torres got the assist before Mata put the ball into the back of the net. West Ham did finally get into the match in stoppage time of the first half. The second half saw West Ham really take over. Chelsea had a few decent chances including Mata putting one off the bar, but the second half was all West Ham.
Carlton Cole pulled the Hammers level in the 63rd minute and Mohamed Diame gave West Ham the lead in the 86th minute. West Ham United kept Chelsea on the back foot for almost the entirety of the second half. Chelsea should have had a 2 or 3 goal lead at half time, but did not do enough to get more than the one goal. Chelsea looked poor in the second half at both ends.
West Ham United put the game away in stoppage time after Chelsea gave the ball away and Modibo Maiga broke away to get their third goal and wrap up all three points.
I did predict a 1 – 1 draw for this match and I’m sure there were few out there that would have predicted a win of this magnitude for the Hammers. It was a dominating second half performance for West Ham and Rafa Benitez will have a lot to look at changing with this Chelsea team. The win moves West Ham up to sixth place (for now) and will mean a West Brom win would move them above Chelsea.
