Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights from the EPL Fixture between Reading vs Manchester United on Saturday, December 01, 2012.
Result: Reading 3 – 4 Manchester United
Location: Madejski Stadium – Reading
|Reading – 3||Manchester United – 4|
|Hal Robson-Kanu (8’)||Anderson (13’)|
|Adam Le Fondre (19’)||Wayne Rooney (PEN 16’)|
|Shaun Morrison (23’)||Wayne Rooney (30’)|
|Robin van Persie (34’)|
Once again United started out a match by going behind, this time in only the 8th minute thanks to a brilliant strike from Hal Robson-Kanu. Reading’s lead did not last long as Anderson received the ball from Young in the box and shooting past Federici.
Again the score did not stay at 1-1 for long as Reading gave up a penalty when Jay Tabb clattered into the back of Jonny Evans; a clear penalty. Wayne Rooney had no difficulty putting away the 16th minute penalty shot.
Darren Fletcher was left ball watching on Reading’s corner as Adam Le Fondre was left wide open for a free header to pull them level again in the 19th minute. Reading made it 3-2 on yet another corner with Shaun Morrison heading in past a slack, ball watching United defense.
Young to Evra, Evra to Rooney.
United’s third goal came on some fantastic build up play with Patrice Evra playing to Ashley Young on the wing and making the run into the box where he received the ball back on the one-two then passing on to Wayne Rooney running into the middle of the box to make it 3-3 in the 30th minute. The 30th minute also saw Sir Alex make his first substitution with Chris Smalling coming on for Rafael (who was not at all happy about it). Rafael was having a hard go of it on the wing and had already been given a yellow card.
This was far from the end of the match as Wayne Rooney flicked on to Robin van Persie making his run and being played onside by Shorey who stopped following to raise his hand for offside leaving van Persie with an easy shot past Federici making it 4-3 in the 34th minute.
The 38th minute saw some controversy as Robin van Persie’s header went over the line but was cleared out and play was waved on. Replays showed the ball went over by nearly a yard. United finished out the half with their second substitution as Anderson had to come off with a knock and Phil Jones took him his position in midfield.
Sir Alex’s half time talk was certainly one of his trademark “hair dryer” treatments due to their terrible defending. Anders Lindegaard did not look very flash in goal and Reading’s best chances came from crosses into the box.
The second half began without all of the dramatics of the first half as both teams seemed to settle down somewhat. Both sides had some good chances early, but the defenses held up. Robin van Persie had a clear chance which he should have put away when Federici bungled a back pass allowing van Persie to get around him only to fire high and wide.
What a match it was, but all 7 goals came in the first 34 minutes. The win was what Manchester United to put themselves out ahead of City by 3 points ahead of the Manchester derby next weekend at the Etihad. The loss for Reading keeps them in the bottom 3 at 19th place.
