Result: Liverpool 4 – 0 Fulham
Location: Anfield Stadium – Liverpool
|Liverpool – 4||Fulham – 0|
Martin Skrtel (8’)
Steven Gerrard (36’)
Stewart Downing (51’)
Luis Suarez (90’+2’)
Liverpool started the match as the stronger side and had Martin Skrtel put them ahead in the 8th minute with a right footed strike in the box off the corner taken by Steven Gerrard. Gerrard then doubled their lead in the 36th minute to give them a solid 2 – 0 lead at the half.
Daniel Agger had the most perfect chance in the 25th minute. He had the entire empty goal to shoot at from about 3 yards out and somehow, inexplicably shot over the goal; a fantastic blooper of a miss. Fulham looked slow and Dimitar Berbatov seemed frustrated as well as frustrating as he continued to try to hold the ball up instead of playing forward.
Liverpool doubled their lead in the second half with goals from Stewart Downing and Luis Suarez. Perhaps the brightest spot for Liverpool in this match was being able to get the four goals from four different players and moving away from their reliance on Suarez. This is the perfect time for them to shift into the next gear and get rolling for the second half of the season. Their midweek match against Stoke could be a good test for them, but they follow that up with a visit to QPR and then Sunderland at home. The holiday period could be very festive for Liverpool. Fulham will have some tough fixtures coming up as well at home against Southampton, Swansea, and Wigan. For now, Liverpool moves up into 8th place while Fulham remains in 13th.
