Result: West Ham United 1 – 2 Everton
Location: Upton Park – West Ham United
|West Ham – 1||Everton – 2|
|Carlton Cole (14’)||Victor Anichebe (64’)|
|Steven Pienaar (73’)|
This was yet another exciting match with Everton coming from behind to snatch all 3 points. This was also a match that included two red cards, one for each side. Both Carlton Cole and Darron Gibson received straight red cards for high, dangerous kicks with Cole’s coming in the 67th minute and could be considered to affect the outcome of the match. Gibson’s came in the 2nd minute of stoppage time and certainly didn’t do much to affect any outcome.
The match itself had Everton dominating throughout. Carlton Cole’s 14th minute strike was well taken as he took the ball from his left to right and shot from the top of the penalty area low into the left corner of Tim Howard’s goal. The first half ended with West Ham up 1 – 0, but the second half is where it really picked up.
Steven Pienaar sent in a great cross from the left to right where Victor Anichebe rose to loop the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to pull Everton even in the 64th minute. Steven Pienaar then managed to bundle in the Toffees winner in the 73rd minute. Everton move up into fourth place with the win while West Ham stay in 11th place with 23 minutes, at least until after the Liverpool v Fulham match.
