What a match! Once again Manchester United went down early with a James Perch goal in the 4th minute coming after he latched onto the rebound of David de Gea’s spilled save. Jonny Evans equalized with a poacher’s goal on a free kick in the 25th minute. This was then followed up by him scoring at the other end with a controversial own goal in the 28th minute. Demba Ba was clearly offside, with the linesman’s flag going up, but the referee decided to give the own goal despite Ba’s involvement. This gave Newcastle the 2-1 lead going in to the half.
The second half saw even more drama. Patrice Evra had an excellent goal from the top of the box shooting across the goal and through the defense to even the score at 2 in the 58th minute. This only lasted 10 minutes before Papiss Cisse ran the United defense ragged and put Newcastle back in front.
Once again the score did not remain static with Robin van Persie smashing in yet another equalizer in the 71st minute. Manchester United should have had free kick on the edge of the area following a hand ball by Coloccini on a Javier Hernandez shot. Chicharito then finished off the match in the 90th minute to give Manchester United all three points. Stoppage time had Antonio Valencia bring down Vernon Anita with some calling for him to get a second yellow card.
Sir Alex Ferguson will surely be hearing from the FA following his tirades against the referee and linesman throughout the second half. United’s win, couple with City’s loss, puts United at the top of the table by 7 points.
