All the goals, including Gareth Bale’s hat trick, came in the second half. Aston Villa did well to hang on to a 0-0 draw through to half time, but it was fairly obvious that the breakthrough was inevitable. Villa could have some positives to take away, though I’m not quite sure what they would be. Tottenham was dominant throughout. Benteke was kept at bay by an organized Tottenham defensive line and Villa was held to 3 shots, with only one of them getting to Lloris in the Spurs goal.
This was every bit the dominating Spurs performance that I was expecting. They had several great chances from Defoe, Lennon and Bale in the first half, and Bale ran them ragged in the second half. Tottenham move up into fourth with the win, tied on points with Everton, but ahead on win/loss record. Aston Villa are hovering just above the relegation zone in 16th place on 18 points, 2 ahead of Southampton.
