Premier League Preview for Aston Villa v Sunderland along with Predictions for every result in the EPL. Follow up each match with results and video highlights posted later in the week.
Aston Villa’s comeback in Monday’s match at West Brom was not pretty, but it worked. After going down 0-2 they resorted to Route One football and began hoofing it down field aiming for Christian Benteke. To their credit, it did work out and they managed to claw back a 2-2 draw.
Sunderland’s horrible season continued after losing 2-0 to Stoke City and having another player (wrongly) sent off. Wes Brown’s red card was the Black Cat’s fourth this season (most in the league). To be fair to Sunderland, they were still in the game before the card with the score at 1-0. Sunderland has now lost 8 out of their last 10 matches and has not scored in their last four away matches in the Premier League.
This match should be quite scrappy with Villa trying to find a decent stretch of results having gotten a draw, win and draw in their past three. Meanwhile, Sunderland are attempting to get themselves out of the bottom of the table. It should be noted that Sunderland has averaged 11 fouls per game while Aston Villa has the third most fouls per game with 13.1. Villa has 23 yellow cards compared to Sunderland’s 13.
My prediction is for a close and hard fought match that could go either way. In the end I think Aston Villa will be the team to come out on top with a win. Sunderland has managed to score the second fewest goals in the league with only eight while Aston Villa has scored 14. Villa has also scored two goals in the past games.
Betting Odds: Aston Villa win: 1.95-2.01; Draw: 3.40-3.52; Sunderland: 3.96-4.17
Form: Aston Villa (D, L, L, D, W, D) Sunderland (L, L, W, L, W, L)
Prediction: Aston Villa 2 – 1 Sunderland
