Monday evening’s match ended with the Gunners continuing their excellent season thanks to goals from Jack Wilshire and Olivier Giroud. There were times that Arsenal were pegged back in their own half, but they were able to get yet another away win to retain their spot at the top of the table.
This win was their fourth in a row in the Premier League and means that they have just one loss in their last ten matches. In their home matches they have kept a clean sheet in five out of their last six in the Premier League.
In Monday’s win they certainly looked good at times and completed dominated possession with 64%, while completing 87% of their passes. Yet, despite all of that they only had eight shots with four on target.
While this is an excellent conversion rate, they really should have done more with the ball.
The Cottagers were handed a rather shocking 4-1 defeat at home to relegation embattled Sunderland. The statistics for the match really do not match up with the result, but do show why Fulham are in trouble this season.
In Saturday’s match they had the majority of possession with 59% as well as completing 86% of their passes compared to Sunderland’s 75%. Defensively they gave up just 10 shots, but 6 of those were on target for the four goals.
On offense they had 17 shots with five of those on target, two blocked and 10 off target. The statistics show that Fulham have failed to convert their chances, which is largely due to the poor shooting of their players, and on defense are not closing down players enough to keep them from getting off quality shots.
My pick is an Arsenal win. While they haven’t been blowing teams away, they have been winning and this could be a chance to really pile on some goals. Fulham could get themselves a goal, but it’s going to be very difficult and I cannot see them getting a win. Fulham has given up at least two goals in five of their last six away matches in the Premier League.
