3 best fantasy football captains for GW22

The EPL returns this weekend after FA Cup action and there are plenty of points at stake for fantasy football managers.

Whilst the gameweek starts on Friday night between Sheffield United and West Ham United at Bramall Lane, it’s the games on Saturday and Sunday I will be looking at. Leicester City host Southampton; a team they thrashed 9-0 at St Mary’s at the end of October, Manchester City should be expecting a big win at Aston Villa on Sunday, and Manchester United host Norwich City in another game where lots of points should be scored.

Here are my takes on the best fantasy football captains for gameweek 22:

Jamie Vardy

Leicester City have stumbled a little of late but shouldn’t have any problem taking three points at home to Southampton on Saturday. And whilst Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have improved since their drubbing by the Foxes two-and-a-half months ago I don’t see them being able to match up to the hosts this weekend.

Jamie Vardy scored a hat-trick in the previous meeting between these two and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does so again on Saturday. The striker’s form has dipped slightly in recent weeks but this is a perfect opportunity to get closer to the Golden Boot trophy.

Supplied by the likes of Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira the Leicester striker shouldn’t have a problem finding the back of the net in this one.

Sergio Aguero

Aston Villa were dumped out of the FA Cup by Championship side Fulham last weekend and are looking a shambles at the back. Manchester City are one of the last team’s Dean Smith’s side wants to be facing whilst the manager’s future has come into question in recent weeks.

Goalkeeper Tom Heaton is a huge loss to the Villans, whilst Wesley’s injury may be a blessing in disguise for them. Sergio Aguero is surely going to benefit from both Heaton’s absence and Villa’s leaky defence in general.

The Argentine should be supplied by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Riyad Mahrez in this one and will get among the goals if he starts, there’s no doubt about that. Any of City’s attacking players are a good choice as captain this week but Aguero gets the nod for me.

Marcus Rashford

Norwich City appeared headed back to the Championship at the first attempt whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to be looking for another big performance from his Manchester United side at Old Trafford this weekend.

Anthony Martial would have been my pick if he was 100% fit but the French international is a doubt. Therefore we could see Marcus Rashford benefiting by leading the line in this one. The England international is having his best season to date and is in good form too.

The Canaries have a woeful defence and Daniel Farke continues to play open, attractive football. United’s pace should see them get a couple of goals this weekend, and if so, Rashford has to be among them.
