Liverpool v Norwich City: If Brendan Rodgers manages to get his tactics and formation right, then they should be able to get a win. It is also helps that Norwich are below them in the table considering that Liverpool has yet to beat a team above them in the standings. Norwich has recently hit a low point in their form. I don’t think they have it in them to turn it around at Anfield, but there is the chance of getting a draw. I’m picking Liverpool to come away with all three points.

Liverpool (W, L, W, W, L)        Norwich City (L, L, L, L, D)

          Prediction: Liverpool 2 – 0 Norwich

Manchester City v Fulham: Vincent Kompany’s overturned red card is a welcome boost for a team that needs their captain to keep them in the title race. They haven’t impressed much this season, but have managed to get results throughout the year. Fulham has had a rather bumpy ride this season. They have managed to get back to back results as well as advancing in the FA Cup. Despite this they are harrowingly close to be drawn into the relegation battle. I’m picking a Manchester City win on Saturday and keep the pressure on Manchester United as well as heaping more pressure on Fulham in the bid to stay away from relegation.

Man City(W, L, W, W, W)                 Fulham (L, D, L, W, D)

          Prediction: Manchester City 3 – 1 Fulham

Newcastle United v Reading: This is a match that has relegation battle written all over it. Another Newcastle loss would be quite devastating for them. If Reading can pull off a win they would move within two points of Newcastle and drag them into the battle to stay up. I’m predicting a draw, but this is certainly one that can go end up with any kind of result. Reading has looked much better lately and Newcastle has looked poor, so it should be quite interesting to see the outcome.

Newcastle (W, L, L, L, D)        Reading (L, D, W, L, W)

Prediction: Newcastle 1 – 1 Reading

Swansea City v Stoke City: Going on recent form Swansea has been the better side despite only getting 1 win in the last 5 matches. Stoke has lost 2 in a row and I see Swansea making it three. While Swansea isn’t quite the same caliber as Chelsea and Manchester City, they do have enough quality to break down a team like Stoke. It will be interesting to see what Tony Pulis does in attempting to stop their recent skid, if he will have them sit back and defend even more, or push them forward in attack. Either way I’m picking a Swansea City win.

Swansea City (D, D, W, D, D)           Stoke (D, W, D, L, L)

          Prediction: Swansea 1 – 0 Stoke

West Ham United v Queens Park Rangers: Yet another intriguing match that could end up going either way. QPR actually has a decent run of form, at least by their standards this season. On the other hand West Ham has had a more difficult go of it, especially with Andy Carroll out. I predict Queens Park Rangers will manage to get a draw out of this. Harry Redknapp has been able to make some changes and get them playing better, but they still lack punch up front.

West Ham United (D, L, L, W, L)      QPR (L, L, L, W, D)

Prediction: West Ham 1 – 1 Queens Park Rangers

Wigan Athletic v Sunderland: Wigan or Sunderland? Will they both stay up? Will one or the other go down? At the moment Wigan is just barely out of the drop zone and there is still a chance for Sunderland to get pushed into that battle as well. The second half of the season is typically when Wigan get their act together and make their push out of relegation. This could be the start of their run. Sunderland has had a recent string of injuries and could be without Steven Fletcher and John O’Shea on Saturday. It’s always a possibility that Sunderland gets something out of the match, but I’m predicting win for Wigan.

Wigan (L, L, W, L, D)     Sunderland (W, W, L, L, W)

          Prediction: Wigan 2 – 0 Sunderland

West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa: This is good timing for West Brom to face Aston Villa. They have not had a good start to 2013 with 3 losses in the Premier League as well as getting knocked out of the FA Cup by QPR. Aston Villa really hasn’t fared any better with 4 losses out of 5 EPL matches and a loss to Bradford City in the Capital One Cup. It would be interesting to see Aston Villa get a result, but this is the time for West Brom to turn it around. I’m picking West Brom to come away with all three points on Saturday.

West Brom (W, W, L, L, L)       Aston Villa (L, L, L, D, L)

Prediction: West Brom 3 – 0 Aston Villa

Chelsea v Arsenal: [EDIT] I’m updating this following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Southampton and Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Swansea. Chelsea’s home form has been far from stable under Benitez. It seems likely that Fernando Torres will start, which may not be a good thing considering how well Ba has played. Arsenal have been an inconsistent, patchy team this year, but also seem to follow up poor Premier League performances with good tournament performances followed by a result in the Premier League. Arsenal showed signs of playing better against Swansea and I see them giving Chelsea a good match. I’m changing my pick to a draw for Sunday’s match.

[previous version]Not exactly the best time for Arsenal to be traveling across town to Stamford Bridge, or it could be great timing considering Chelsea’s recent home form. I think it will be more of the former than the latter. Arsenal have not had a convincing performance in some time. They may have beaten Newcastle 7-3, but that did include giving up 3 goals and Newcastle were very poor. Now that Chelsea have purchased Demba Ba they have a goal scorer who has proven he can score for Chelsea. Chelsea will be too strong for Arsenal and I’m picking them to come away as winner’s on Sunday, giving Arsene Wenger even more of a headache.

Chelsea (W, W, W, L, W)         Arsenal (W, W, W, D, L)

          Prediction: Chelsea 2 – 2 Arsenal

Tottenham v Manchester United: The last time these two met Tottenham came away with all three points at Old Trafford, the only team to have done so this season. Both teams have been in great form and have been plowing through teams week after week. I won’t be surprised by any result in this match. I’m predicting a pretty even match ending in a draw.

Tottenham (D, W, W, W, D)    Manchester United (D, W, W, W, W)

          Prediction: Tottenham 2 – 2 Manchester United

Monday, January 21, 2013

Southampton v Everton: Both Southampton and Everton have had their difficulties in defense, but have shown the ability to score goals. I think it will be tough for Everton to get a win away at St. Mary’s, but there is that chance. At the same time there’s a very good chance for Southampton to get a win. In the end I’m predicting a draw, most likely with plenty of goals.

Southampton (L, D, D, D, W)  Everton (W, W, L, W, D)

          Prediction: Southampton 2 – 2 Everton

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Arsenal v West Ham United: I’m including this match with this week’s predictions since it is a game in hand for both clubs. In this match I see Arsenal having too much quality compared to West Ham. It’s possible that the Hammers will have Andy Carroll available which could cause problems for Arsenal’s slack defense, but Arsenal do have a strong attack. This could be similar to their 7-3 win over Newcastle the other week. I’m picking an Arsenal win, but it could be tough and there’s definitely a chance that West Ham stifles them and gets a draw.

Arsenal (W, W, D, L, L?)                   West Ham United (L, L, W, L, D?)

          Prediction: Arsenal 3 – 1 West Ham
