Aston Villa v Newcastle United: Both of these two teams have had some fantastically bad form recently. Aston Villa’s form has more or less transferred into their cup tournament play as well, having been knocked out of both the Capital One Cup and FA Cup within the span of 4 days. Newcastle had the fortune (at least for themselves) of having the week off to prepare for this clash. At the moment Newcastle is one point above Aston Villa with Villa sitting in 17th place just above the drop zone. A loss for either team could put them into the bottom three. A draw could easily put them both in the bottom three depending on how other teams do. Newcastle did show some signs of life against Reading, but fell apart in the second half. I think a draw would be a pretty reasonable pick for this one, but I’m going to go with predicting Newcastle to get the win. They have had a week to rest up and work on tactics and that will make all the difference on Tuesday.

Aston Villa (L, L, D, L, D)     1 – 2     Newcastle (L, L, L, D, L)

Queens Park Rangers v Manchester City: QPR may have been able to get a decent run of form lately with a win and two draws, but Manchester City has been able to continuing winning despite not really playing the greatest. In the weekend’s FA Cup matches City overcame Stoke to go through while QPR was beaten quite soundly (4-2) by MK Dons. Rangers may be able to give them a game and possibly eke out a draw, but I have a hard time seeing that happen. I’m picking Manchester City to win this one with Rangers battling in the first half, but losing it in the second.

QPR (L, L, W, D, D)   0 – 3   Man City (L, W, W, W, W)

Stoke City v Wigan Athletic: This is going to be a fairly big match for both teams, but especially so for Wigan who really need to get a win and start a run to get out of the relegation zone. Stoke has been struggling recently and has been allowing goals. They have tended to play a bit more open at home and both teams will undoubtedly be going for a win. I might be going out on a ledge with this one, but I can see it happening. I’m predicting a 2 – 1 Wigan win in what will be a battle. It could go either way, but I think Wigan has the attacking style needed to overcome what could be a desperate Stoke team.

Stoke (W, D, L, L, L)   1 – 2   Wigan (L, W, L, D, L)

Sunderland v Swansea City: Sunderland were a team that a few weeks ago looked destined for a relegation battle. On the other hand Swansea is a team that is in its first Cup final ever and playing quite well in the Premier League. Swansea has probably been the better in form team lately, but they will be playing at the Stadium of Light which should be a boost for the Black Cats. Once again it is a match that could go either way, but with their recent form lately I’m predicting a 1 – 1 draw.

Sunderland (W, L, L, W, W)   1 – 1   Swansea (D, W, D, D, W)

Arsenal v Liverpool: Arsenal and Liverpool have been very inconsistent throughout this whole season. They have both been frustrating to predict and form seems to be something that hasn’t seemed to affect either side. Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their shocking 3 – 2 loss to League One Oldham in the FA Cup while Arsenal looked very good against West Ham in their midweek EPL match and did just enough to overcome Brighton in the FA Cup. This is certainly going to be an interesting match to watch and should be full of end to end attacking. These are two teams that haven’t proven to be the most clinical of finishers, but you just never know what could happen. My prediction is an Arsenal win, although I would be far from surprised by a draw. I do have a difficult time seeing Liverpool getting a win.

Arsenal (W, D, L, L, W)   3 – 2   Liverpool (L, W, W, L, W)

Everton v West Bromwich Albion: If Everton want to keep pace with a possible European spot finish they will need to look at this as a must win situation. West Brom are four points behind them in the table, but Arsenal are only a point behind them and the Toffees will need to keep it that way. I was originally looking at this as a draw between the two sides, but I think Everton have what they need to get a win. West Brom’s most recent good result was a 2-2 draw at home to a struggling Aston Villa. Everton hasn’t played the best lately, but they managed to fight back for a win in the FA Cup and their most recent EPL matches saw them keep consecutive clean sheets. I don’t think they will keep another clean sheet, but I am predicting an Everton win.

Everton (W, L, W, D, D)   3 – 1   West Brom (W, L, L, L, D)

Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur: Both Tottenham and Norwich were dumped out of the FA Cup by lower division teams, but Norwich’s loss will certainly hurt them more considering it was to non-league Luton Town, and at home. Tottenham have been flying high in the Premier League and Norwich are going the other direction. This should end up being a fairly comfortable Tottenham win.

Norwich City (L, L, L, D, L)   0 – 3   Tottenham (W, W, W, D, D)

Fulham v West Ham United: Yet another Premier League match-up of struggling sides. West Ham can at least look at this past week as a time to rest up while Fulham had to play Manchester United in the FA Cup. Fulham looked quite poor and lacking options during that match. The same could be said of West Ham in the midweek clash with Arsenal. At least Fulham are at home to a team that has struggled away with West Ham going 2-2-7 on the road. Despite this I think that they have both been too poor for either side to pull ahead. My prediction is a 1-1 draw.

Fulham (D, L, W, D, L)   1 – 1   West Ham United (L, W, L, D, L)
Manchester United v Southampton
: I have been impressed with Southampton lately. They don’t look quite as weak at the back and have been able to push up to get goals. Old Trafford may not be the fortress it once was, but Southampton’s away record is quite abysmal at 2-3-6. Having a new manager could be helpful for them at this point as well as having the past full week off. Manchester United will have a fully rested Robin van Persie ready for Wednesday’s Premier League match as well as several other key players (Cleverly, Vidic, and Ferdinand). I think Southampton will make this one uncomfortable and could get a goal, but my prediction is a United win in the end.

Manchester United (W, W, W, W, D)            3 – 1     Southampton (D, D, W, D, D)

Reading v Chelsea: Reading has really pulled it together lately and look like they could be headed away from the relegation zone. Their most recent run of form began with their loss to Manchester City. They nearly held on to a draw except for a controversial last winner for City. They have stopped leaking goals and have started to score them more often. The good news for Chelsea is that at least they are away from home. Chelsea looked quite stunned to draw to Brentford in the FA Cup while Reading did their job by beating Sheffield United. This is a match that Reading could come away with all three points, but then again, Chelsea has so much talent and depth that they really should be the ones getting the win. My prediction is a draw and something that could be either 1-1 or 2-2.

Reading (D, W, L, W, W)   1 – 1   Chelsea (W, L, W, D, W)

*W/D/L stats are based on the past 5 Premier League competitions

Let me know what you think. Do you think I picked them right? Any changes you would make?
