FA Cup Round 5: Manchester United 2 – 1 Reading
Reading went to Old Trafford and made it a difficult match for Manchester United. The match opened with United dominating and looking like they would be scoring freely, but Reading’s stout defense stood firm until the 69th minute. Ironically I had only just commented to my wife that Nani is not, nor will he ever be Ronaldo, which was followed by Nani scoring a fantastic goal.
Javier Hernandez followed this up with a headed goal in the 72nd minute, coming only seconds after Reading nearly scored. David De Gea’s save kept United in the match and his long kick downfield helped to set up Chicharito.
Reading were able to get a goal back in the 81st minute through Jobi McAnuff. This was followed by Reading pounding at United’s defense with long balls, long throws and corners. In the end, Manchester United held on and nearly came away with a third goal.
Manchester United now advance to the sixth round to take on the winner of Middlesbrough v Chelsea. Reading will have plenty of positives to take away from the game and be able to use to build on their Premier League run to stay out of relegation.
