As expected Stoke came out with their typical tactics away from home by sitting deep and breaking up play in midfield, mostly through fouling. Steven N’Zonzi got extremely lucky to only get a yellow card when he certainly should have been sent off in the first half for hitting Bryan Ruiz in the face. Fulham dominated possession and had the better chances before breaking through in first half stoppage time.
The second half saw Johnathan Walters’ penalty saved by Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer. The penalty was given for handball by Dejagha in the box, but Stoke could not capitalize. The second half definitely opened up more than in the first with Stoke realizing they needed to get a goal and could no longer sit back.
