Two first half penalties kept the score close going into the half. Dimitar Berbatov netting Fulham’s first from the spot. Sascha Riether gave them a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute before Craig Gardner took Sunderland’s penalty in the 37th to keep themselves in the match for the second half.
The second half was a very equal that resulted in a 2-2 draw that was probably deserved for Sunderland.
As far as standings go, Sunderland move up to 14th place and are level with Newcastle United with 30 points. The draw wasn’t quite enough to get them truly out of the relegation battle, but could be a catalyst for some results. Fulham are now up to 10th place with 33 points, even with Stoke and West Ham
