Manchester United was absolutely dominant in the first half taking 11 shots compared to Norwich City’s 0. Norwich sat back and worked to press United with a 4-5-1 which seemed to turn into a 5-4-1 for most of the half. This tactic may have worked earlier in the season, but recent United performances have seen them bolster their defensive understanding and they were able to get back quickly to defend.
The breakthrough eventually came in stoppage time of the first half. United had been playing neat one-two passes throughout the half, but the goal came from a cross by Valencia to van Persie who’s touch saw the ball land for Kagawa to put away.
The second half began with Norwich looking much better and getting a few early chances. However, the half concluded with Kagawa finishing off a hat trick and Wayne Rooney getting a beauty of a goal. Rooney looked much better in today’s match and was a good showing to prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Real Madrid.
United’s win today puts them 15 points clear at the top with City set to play on Monday.
