This match has the chance to be the game of the weekend. Both teams play open, attacking football and both teams should be going for the win. There is always the chance that it gets bogged down in a midfield battle, but with Tottenham’s recent play, I don’t think this will happen.
Southampton may not mathematically be safe from relegation, but they should be far enough away from the others in the battle, that they shouldn’t fear the drop.
Southampton doesn’t have any major injury concerns. Tottenham remain without Moussa Dembele and Younes Kaboul, while William Gallas may be available.
Tottenham are surely looking for a win to keep their sights on a top four finish. Going in to Saturday they are in fifth place on 62 points behind Chelsea in third (65) and Arsenal in fourth (64). Depending on how the weekend results turn out, they could end the weekend in fourth and level on points with Chelsea. For them, this match is massive.
Southampton haven’t quite reached the 40 point mark, but where they are at now, they should be safe. They have 39 points sitting in 13th place just above Norwich.
I am predicting a Tottenham win. They have a strong squad and Gareth Bale has had time to recover from whatever little niggles were bothering him against Wigan. Southampton have plenty of good players and a good philosophy going for them, but Tottenham need this win and have that going for them. They were able to pull out a draw against Wigan last weekend, even though they were second best. This weekend, they are at home and will have the fans behind them.
