Fulham were one of those teams that seemed to drift into near non-existence last year. For the 2013-14 Premier League season they will need to step up their game. To start this year they do have most of their players returning, with the exception of Mark Schwarzer who will be replaced by Maarten Stekelenburg. Otherwise they have been rather quiet in the transfer market. Recent reports link them to Adel Taarabt who could be a good addition to add some speed up front alongside the likes of Bryan Ruiz and Dimitar Berbatov.
While Fulham was able to escape the relegation battle, their 12th place finish with 43 points was not really a good indicator of their season. They scraped by with a very streaky year and often looked like they weren’t all that interested in playing. While Fulham have relied on the talent of Dimitar Berbatov they may need to look to other players to carry them, such as Bryan Ruiz or Hugo Rodallega. Berbatov certainly has the ability to change matches, but too often Fulham looked stagnant and slow in a league that is fast paced and capitalizes on mistakes.
My prediction for Fulham this year is that they will be relegated. If they continue to play the way they did last year then they will be on their way down to the Championship. If they are able to strengthen their defense and get the ball forward more quickly, then they have a chance of finishing somewhere in the bottom half of the table. It is also possible that other teams around them will play worse and finish lower than them.
