The 2013-14 Premier League season is full of hope for Swansea City. After winning the 2013 Capital One Cup last year they are now in the Europa League where their qualification has gone well so far.
Swansea surprised a lot of people last season. While most pundits thought they would survive relegation, they weren’t quite sure what to think of losing yet another excellent manager with Michael Laudrup coming in. Instead he was able to continue building on the squad and made them a better team.
Not only were they able to finish in ninth place, they also won the Capital One Cup and make it into the Europa League. A very impressive haul for Swansea. In fact, they probably could have done even better in the Premier League had it not been for their hangover following the Capital One Cup. They seemed to realize they had done all the hard work and let off quite a bit.
This summer Laudrup has done an excellent job of strengthening the team and adding depth, which is exactly what they need to move forward. Bringing in striker Wilfried Bony and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey are fantastic additions that give some more attacking options and mean that Michu won’t be alone in leading the line for Swansea.
I think this will be an exciting season for Swansea City supporters and for fans of the Premier League. This is a club that is hard not to like. They play hard, fun football and have a great story to go along with it.
My prediction for Swansea is another top ten finish with the chance to push teams like Liverpool, Everton and even Arsenal for a sixth or even fifth place finish. A more realistic prediction would be for them to finish in eighth with a strong cup run. I’m sure that Laudrup will want them to go far in the Europa League and I would say that they have a chance of winning it all.
