Manchester United looked like a team devoid of creativity and answers in their 1-0 loss to Liverpool. Other than the lone goal from Daniel Sturridge, they did do well defensively and kept Liverpool from increasing the score. They should have Rafael and Phil Jones available, but it certainly looks like Wayne Rooney will be out for another week.

Crystal Palace have not looked so bad, certainly much better than I or most other pundits thought they would be this year. They were undone against Tottenham by a penalty and managed to open their Premier League scoring against Stoke City. Their win over Sunderland was certainly convincing and made most people change their opinions of Crystal Palace for this EPL season.

In Saturday’s early match Manchester United should have the upper hand, unless they underestimate Crystal Palace. The difficulty for United will be whether they can come out and score goals after going two matches without hitting the back of the net.

Crystal Palace will need to set up a solid defense and be able to break quickly on a counterattack. Their most likely goal scoring chances will probably come from set pieces. Manchester United has been rather solid defensively allowing two goals to start the year, one from a corner and only one from open play.

My prediction is for a Manchester United win. Crystal Palace could always pull off a shock win, but I think that’s pretty unlikely. It would be more likely that they could get a draw out of it. With Danny Welbeck starting out the year strong it looks like he will feature and could be an outstanding player to look for.

Most bettors put the odds for a United win at around 1.19-1.22 with a draw at 6.8-7.5 and a Crystal Palace win at 14.15-17.04.
