The London Derby between Tottenham and Chelsea may not be as significant as that of Tottenham and Arsenal, but it is one that Chelsea should certainly see as a high priority considering Spurs status as an up and coming title contender.

Over the past two seasons Chelsea has had the upper hand with three wins and three draws. This includes Chelsea’s 4-2 away win and the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge last season.

To start this season Tottenham has had the better start with the one loss to Arsenal and four wins to put them in second (on goal difference to Arsenal) with 12 points. This compares to Chelsea’s 10 points in fourth with both teams having a +4 goal difference.

It will be interesting to see how the two managers react to one another considering their previous relationship and where it is now. Mourinho has already shown that he is going to revert to his pragmatic, “negative” football tactics. He has a slew of attacking midfielders and yet refuses to play the one who most people consider the best on the team in Juan Mata. All because he doesn’t believe that Mata can put in enough of a defensive effort.

The match itself could be a fun one to watch. Spurs has played exciting attacking soccer. They do well at creating chances, but at times have struggled to finish them off. The same could be said of Chelsea, especially with their lack of a true first choice striker.

My prediction is for a narrow Tottenham win. As the odds show, this is a match that could swing any direction including a Chelsea win. A safer bet would certainly be on a draw considering the defensive prowess of both sides with Tottenham allowing only one goal and Chelsea allowing two.

Betting Odds: Spurs win: 2.70-2.80; Draw: 3.28-3.40; Chelsea: 2.54-2.63

Form: Tottenham (W, W, L, W, W)     Chelsea (W, W, D, L, W)

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1 – 0 Chelsea
