Each week Fantasy Friday will bring tips for Premier League fantasy leagues including matchups to watch out for. Keep up to date on players injured, suspended or questionable for each week.
In week 9 of the Premier League there are several matchups for fantasy players to look at in setting up their teams. In last week’s team of the week there were several players that will continue to impress this week, but most notably is Mesut Ozil’s continued success in the EPL. Swansea City and West Brom had several top players including Angel Rangel, Chico Flores, Johnathan De Guzman, Liam Ridgewell and Boaz Myhill. While these players may do well this week, they are coming up against somewhat stiffer opposition with Swansea at home to West Ham United and West Brom travelling to Liverpool.
Two of the teams to look at for this week in both offense and defense are Arsenal and Southampton. Southampton has allowed the fewest goals this season, three, while keeping the most clean sheets. Players like Artur Boruc, Jose Fonte, and Dejan Lovren are all near the top of the fantasy points leaders. Southampton are taking on Fulham who have struggled this season despite recently achieving back to back wins. Adam Lallana is another player that has done exceptionally well for Southampton and is rather cheap.
Arsenal continue to put in dominant displays and I am expecting nothing short of this against relegation embattled Crystal Palace. Mesut Ozil is an easy pick for any team, but Aaron Ramsey remains a relatively cheap choice in most leagues. Defensively Arsenal has not had a great season, but could do well against the stuttering Palace.
West Brom has put in some very good matches in recent weeks, but are coming up against the strong Liverpool at Anfield. Two of their highest point earners are defenders, Myhill and Ridgewell, which could be a problem against a Liverpool team that has Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. Morgan Amalfitano could be a good, cheap pick up in midfield.
Newcastle is a team that you might want to look at bringing in some players from, especially Loic Remy who has scored five goals in the last four matches. He failed to get on the score sheet in week 8, but, against Sunderland will have plenty of chances. Yohan Cabaye had a fantastic goal against Liverpool and is a solid midfield buy along with Hatem Ben Arfa. However, Newcastle has been an inconsistent team and facing Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby could make it interesting.
In Sunday’s big match of Chelsea v Manchester City there is the chance of goals at either end. Manchester City has two in form players with Sergio Aguero scoring three goals and getting two assists in the last two matches while Yaya Toure has scored two and gotten an assist in the last four games. It should also be noted that Vincent Kompany should be returning to City this weekend which will surely give their back line a boost.
On the other side of the pitch for that match you can look at Oscar and Eden Hazard who have both done well this season. Oscar has been solid over the past several matches while Hazard had a team of the week performance last week by scoring two and creating an assist.
