Champions League Predictions and Preview Round 4

UEFA Champions League Predictions

The group stages of the UEFA Champions League has reached round four as matches are set to be played this Tuesday and Wednesday. Here are my predictions and preview as the next round of matches prepare to kick off.

This week’s matches feature the reverse of the previous round’s games. This is the week when the several of the group stage tables should really take shape and point to which teams will be advancing to the knockout round. You can head over to bet365 to check out the best betting odds for this week’s Champions League matches.

Tuesday’s Champions League Matches:

Group A: Manchester United are at the top of the group A table with seven points while Bayer Leverkusen are just behind them with six. This week’s matches feature Manchester United travelling to Real Sociedad while Bayer Leverkusen travel to Shakhtar Donetsk. Both of them won while at home, but the reverse will be a bit more difficult for both of them. My prediction is a United win and a Bayer v Shakhtar draw.

Group B: Real Madrid beat 10 man Juventus in the Bernabeu to go top of Group B with nine points. Meanwhile Galatasaray are in second with four points after their home win over Copenhagen. A Real Madrid win should guarantee safe passage to the knockout round. I’m predicting a Real Madrid v Juventus draw. While Galatasaray should be strong enough to overcome Copenhagen, I believe this will also be a draw.

Group C: Paris Saint-Germain are another team that could guarantee their place in the knockout phase with a win over Anderlecht. Anderlecht have yet to score in their three losses. Olympiakos and Benfica drew in their first match, but I’m predicting an Olympiakos home win this round. PSG should come through quite easily at home; it’s just a matter of how many they score.

Group D: Bayern Munich have also been dominate as the third team that has yet to drop any points. They too can guarantee advancing to the knockout phase and I’m sure that they will. Facing Viktoria Plzen in the last week they scored five goals. Plzen has not won yet this Champions League campaign. Manchester City went to Moscow and won 2-1 in the last round. This time around they can also ensure their advancement to the knockout round with a home win. My prediction is that they will be able to do so with a close win.

Wednesday’s Champions League Matches:

Group E: Chelsea face Schalke at home this time having beaten them 3-0 in Germany to go top of the table on goal difference. Basel drew to Steaua Bucharest in Hungary and are hoping to give themselves a good chance at getting a knockout round place. My prediction is for Basel and Chelsea to both get home wins.

Group F: Borussia Dortmund took top place in Group F with their 2-1 away win against Arsenal in the previous match. This time they will be at home and will certainly be the favorites. Napoli is level with Dortmund and Arsenal, all with six points, but they have an even goal difference leaving them in third. Meanwhile, Marseille has yet to win and has only scored two goals. My prediction is for Napoli to move up into second with a win while Borussia Dortmund remain top and drop Arsenal to third with a win as well.

Group G: Atletico Madrid is the fourth team in this year’s group stage of the Champions League to be undefeated. Their nine points has come with eight goals scored and only two against. They should be able to beat Austria Wien again, this time at home, to ensure they will advance to the next round. Zenit St. Petersburg and FC Porto will be battling for second and third and my prediction is a close Zenit win at home. They were able to beat Porto 1-0 in Portugal and having home field advantage will be a benefit.

Group H: The toughest group in the Champions League this season has been rather close. Barcelona weren’t able to beat AC Milan in Italy, but as the home team I’m predicting a win for them this week. Celtic and Ajax had a very close, hard fought match last round with Celtic coming through as 1-0 home winners. With Ajax as the home team I’m predicting a win for the Dutch, though it could very easily become a draw or even swing Celtics way.
