Champions League Predictions and Preview Round 5 Tuesday Matches

UEFA Champions League Predictions

The Champions League returns on Tuesday and Wednesday with round 5 of the group stages. Several teams can guarantee their advancement to the knockout rounds this week and there are a select few that can win their groups. Here are my previews and predictions for all of Tuesday’s matches.

This Champions League season it is quite probable that all four English Premier League teams will be advancing to the knockout stage with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United in action. All four teams could possibly ensure they advance if results go right.

Tuesday’s Champions League Matches:

Group E: Chelsea currently top the table with nine points while Schalke are second with six and Basel just behind them with five. Chelsea’s lone loss in the group came in their first match against Basel and they face off again this week. Schalke 04 take on bottom of the table Steaua Bucuresti with both teams have a negative goal difference. My predictions are for both Chelsea and Schalke to record away wins and guarantee advancing to the next round.

Group F: Both Arsenal and Napoli can guarantee advancing to the next round with wins. Both teams have nine points with Arsenal topping the table on goal difference. Borussia Dortmund need to get a home win over Napoli to really keep their hopes alive as they sit in third on six points. Marseille remain bottom of the table with zero points. I’m predicting home wins for both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. This would mean that Arsenal will go through and keep Dortmund in the chase.

Group G: Atletico Madrid have dominated the group and are already through to the knockout stage as group winners. Zenit St. Petersburg and FC Porto still have plenty to play for with Zenit in second and five points while Porto are just behind them with four. I’m predicting another Atletico Madrid win over Zenit while Porto wins at home against Austria Wien, who have yet to score a goal.

Group H: Barcelona can win the group with a win or draw on Tuesday as they travel to Amsterdam to take on Ajax, who are in third with four points. AC Milan will face Celtic in Glasgow which should be a good match. This is one group which remains competitive in places 2-4 with only two points separating Milan in second (5 points) and Celtic in fourth (3 points). My prediction is for a Barcelona win and a Celtic v AC Milan draw.
