FA Cup Third Round Replay Predictions and Previews

2014 FA Cup Predictions

The Third Round for the FA Cup continues with replays taking place. My predictions and previews are available for the 11 matches taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday’s matches feature Norwich City travelling to Fulham after their 1-1 draw at Norwich. The only other Premier League club involved is also the pick of the week with Manchester City hosting Blackburn.

Here are my predictions based on looking over statistics from the various teams involved including league standings and past results.

Fulham v Norwich City: The first game in this third round matchup resulted in a 1-1 draw at Norwich. Since then both teams have lost in the Premier League with Fulham dropping 4-1 at home to Sunderland while Norwich lost 2-0 to Everton.

These both may have been the result of managers preparing for this midweek match as I’m sure that they both want to advance to the next round.

I believe that Fulham holds the edge in the replay, especially considering that they have beaten Norwich in their last four home games while also scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Norwich has had some difficulties scoring goals this season with just 17 scored in the Premier League. The good news for them is that Fulham has allowed 46 in the league.

My pick is for a Fulham 2-1 win. This is one match that could go into extra time or even penalties.

Betting Odds: Fulham win: 2.09-2.21; Draw: 3.34-3.60; Norwich win: 3.34-3.60

Manchester City v Blackburn: It was a shocking result when Blackburn was able to hold Manchester City to a 1-1 draw, and not just because it was a draw. The fact that they scored was not all that shocking either, but holding them to just one goal was quite spectacular for them.

I’m expecting Manuel Pellegrini to pick a rather strong side for Wednesday’s match and to go for it. He has the squad available to do this and still have players ready to go for their next Premier League match.

I see it as a very difficult match for Blackburn, especially with Manchester City being unbeaten in 18 of their last 20 FA Cup matches. Their only two losses coming in last year’s final and the previous year’s fourth round.

Betting Odds: City win: 1.11-1.14; Draw: 7.87-10.80; Blackburn win: 18.46-21.95
