Bolton v Cardiff City FA Cup Preview and Prediction

2014 FA Cup Predictions

Bolton take on Cardiff City in their Fourth Round FA Cup match on Saturday. Read on for my preview and prediction for the game along with betting odds.

Bolton

As the home team Bolton will be hoping to keep their recent home form going considering that they have just one loss in their last 11. However, in this time they also have just 3 wins.

Bolton defeated Championship side Blackpool in the third round 2-1. Bolton are currently in 18th place in the Championship where they have a 6-10-10 record to give them 28 points, six above the drop. They have a -11 goal difference with 31 goals scored and 42 given up.

Cardiff City

Bringing Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in as manager was a shrewd move for the Welsh based club, but hasn’t paid off just yet. In their last seven matches they have just one win. It has not helped that five of those matches came against teams in the top nine. They have won just one of their last nine away matches in all competitions, that one being the 2-1 away win over Newcastle United in the third round of the FA Cup.

The FA Cup is a great chance for Cardiff to get a run going and attempt to string some results together in a bid to get out of the relegation battle in the EPL. At the moment they are at the bottom of the table in the Premier League with a 4-6-12 record and 18 points (level with Sunderland and West Ham United). That said, they are still just six points away from Aston Villa in 10th place.

Prediction: Bolton 1 – 2 Cardiff City

My pick is for a Cardiff City win, however, this should be a close match with two teams near in the bottom half of their respective leagues. Both will have plenty to play for in a bid to get a run of results going.

Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):

Bolton win: 2.62; Draw: 3.30; Cardiff win: 2.62

Form: Bolton (W, L, D, W, D, L) Cardiff (L, D, L, W, L, L)

TV: The US broadcast will be on Saturday at 10:00 am on FOX Sports Two. UK viewers can watch highlights on ITV.
