Following their midweek 0-4 loss to Liverpool in midweek Everton will be looking to bounce back at home and pick up some points against Aston Villa. They still have just one home loss in their last 20 in the Premier League, which is something they will need to build on this Saturday.
Statistically at home this year they have scored 1.9 goals per game while conceding just 0.8. They have kept possession well with 54% while completing 83% of their passes. This should stay high against a Villa team that does not retain possession very well.
The concerning thing for Everton is the number of players they have out injured including Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone, Romelu Lukaku and Bryan Oviedo. There are several other players injured that could be brought back early including Ross Barkley, Seamus Coleman, Gerard Delofeu, Sylvain Distin, and Lacina Traore.
Aston Villa showed some real spirit in fighting back to win 4-3 at home to West Brom on Wednesday. This was a match that I thought West Brom would win after going up 2-0 very early in the game. Instead Villa picked up three points to follow up their 2-2 draw away to Liverpool and lift them into 10th place in the table.
They have now scored in each of their last five Premier League matches to improve their average goals scored this season. While they have averaged 1.1 goals per game this year, in the last five games this has gone up to 1.8 per game. They have struggled defensively and have allowed at least two goals in each of their last three matches meaning they have averaged conceding 1.6 goals per game.
My pick is for an Everton win and for there to be goals in this one. While I’ve predicted a 2-1 win for Everton there could certainly be more goals in it as well the possibility for a Villa result.
Aston Villa has been playing well lately and will make it hard for Everton, especially with so many of Everton’s best players out at the moment.
Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):

Form: Everton (L, W, D, W, D, L) Villa (L, D, W, L, D, W)
