Since Villas-Boas has left it seems that the drama surrounding the club has died down and Spurs have quietly put themselves in sixth place in the table, just three out of fourth place. A win against Everton would see them swap places.
Last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Hull was quite disappointing and not much of a response following their previous midweek 1-5 home loss to Man City. That loss is their only one out of their last 8 matches in the Premier League.
Tottenham have just one injury concern with Eric Lamela, although there is a possibility of him being able to play.
Everton has just one loss in their last 8 matches in all competitions, that 4-0 derby loss to Liverpool. Everton are currently two points behind Liverpool and could go above them into fourth if Liverpool lose the early match and Everton win.
Everton were able to bounce back from their derby loss with a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa after going down a goal. Everton has had some struggles in away matches this season, but have only two losses, to Liverpool and Manchester City. Their road record stands at 4-6-2, which is quite respectable. They have also failed to score in just three of those matches, two 0-0 draws and the 4-0 to Liverpool. They have also kept four clean sheets in away EPL games but the last one came six road matches ago in early December with the 0-1 to Manchester United.
Everton’s injury list is one reason for their recent struggles with several key players still out including Antolin Alcaraz, Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone, Lacina Traore, Romelu Lukaku, and Bryan Oviedo.
My pick is a draw. This is certainly a safe pick and either team could come away with a win in this one. Tottenham could be the more likely of the two to pick up all three points considering the comparison in recent forms, but Everton is starting to pick up pace again.
In their last six meetings, all in the Premier League, Everton have three wins with two draws and one Spurs win. When Tottenham are at home they have the edge with three wins, two draws and one Everton win.
Betting Odds (Ladbrokes):
Tottenham win: 2.05; Draw: 3.40; Everton win: 3.60
Form: Spurs (W, W, W, W, L, D) Everton (W, D, W, D, L, W)
Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1 – 1 Everton
