Premier League Scores: Result and highlights from the EPL fixture between Manchester City v Sunderland on Saturday, October 6, 2012
Result: Manchester City 3 – 0 Sunderland
Where: Etihad – Manchester City
|Manchester City – 3||Sunderland – 0|
|Aleksandar Kolorov (5’)|
|Sergio Aguero (60’)|
|James Milner (89’)|
Sunderland had only themselves to blame for the first goal allowed. Carlos Cuellar had a bad tackle on Tevez right at the top far corner of the box. Kolorov took the free kick well bending it up over the wall into the corner. Sunderland did their best to try to hang in there and keep it at 1-0 while trying to get a counter attack goal, but City continued to go at them and eventually got their second goal from Aguero in the 60th minute. While it appeared that Man City started out in a 4-3-2-1 they eventually drifted into their typical 3-5-2 setup which really opened up the match for them.
It also helped that Sunderland often gave up the midfield battle and allowed City to dominate and get forward. Sunderland was not without their chances, but they did little with what they had and never really got a great goal scoring chance. City’s third goal came from a well struck James Milner free kick. It looked like it should’ve been saved, but went through Mignolet’s fingertips. In fairness, though, it did take a slight deflection on its way past the wall.
Manchester City finally looked like the Premier League Champions that they are. They were dominate throughout the match and once they took the lead they did not look like they would be letting go. With the amount of shots they had () they really could’ve had many more, but for Sunderland’s defending. Deserved 3 points for Manchester City. The loss for Sunderland was their first of this season.
