Premier League Fantasy Tips

For gameweek 28 in the Premier League fantasy, team owners need to be aware that there are just eight matches being played. Tips for the weekend’s start with remembering that Manchester City, Manchester United, Sunderland, and West Bromwich Albion all have their EPL matches postponed with the Capital One Cup Final taking place on Sunday between Manchester City v Sunderland.

There are several big matchups this weekend that include road trips for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. While Chelsea are facing bottom of the table Fulham, Arsenal and Liverpool have tricky away matches against Stoke City and Southampton respectively.

This week might be a good point to start making some replacements and keep in mind that next weekend is also a shortened match week with the FA Cup quarter-finals taking place. This involves Arsenal, Everton, Hull City, Manchester City, and Sunderland. You should definitely be looking to offload any Manchester City and Sunderland players considering they will be without matches the next two weeks.

Some players you could look at picking up include:

Goalkeepers
John Ruddy – Norwich City: The Canaries have really buckled down defensively recently and Ruddy has benefitted from this. He has picked up four clean sheets in their last six matches along with 15 saves in this time. Norwich have an away match against Aston Villa and could certainly hold them off for another clean sheet.

Adrian – West Ham United:  Adrian has now picked up five clean sheets with West Ham leading the league in total clean sheets this season. These five have come in their last seven Premier League matches as well as making 33 saves in this time period. While a trip to Everton is not an easy one, it is a match that could easily end goalless.

Defenders

Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea: Chelsea has picked up five clean sheets in their last six matches. In this time Ivanovic has scored two out of his three goals this season as well as contributing an assist. Travelling to Fulham means there is yet another chance at a clean sheet and goals.

Jose Fonte – Southampton face a difficult task against free scoring Liverpool, but Fonte is a player who does well contributing at both ends of the pitch. He has scored two goals in their last five matches as well as picking up two clean sheets.

James Collins and James Tomkins – West Ham United: As mentioned above with Adrian, the Hammers have had five clean sheets in their last seven with this pair contributing to four of these and having played 90 minutes in each of their last six matches. Collins also picked up a goal against Norwich two weeks ago.

Midfielders

Eden Hazard – Chelsea: Last year it was Juan Mata as the big fantasy scorer for Chelsea, this year it is Eden Hazard. He has contributed 12 goals and 8 assists so far this season, which includes his hat trick three weeks ago against Newcastle United. While he has been rather quiet since then, he is the kind of player that could really break out against a team like Fulham.

Adam Lallana and Steven Davis – Southampton: I am a big fan of Lallana’s. In many ways he has become the catalyst for Southampton’s attack. He has 7 goals and 8 assists this season with two assists in their last three matches. With Southampton playing Liverpool, there is the chance of getting a few more offensive points for Lallana this weekend. I’m throwing in Steven Davis as well now that he has gotten a real chance to play regularly lately. In the last six matches he has compiled two clean sheets, one goal and two assists to add to his season total of six clean sheets, two goals and five assists. Oh, he’s also quite cheap and can give you some room to include Hazard and a big scoring striker.

Tom Ince – Crystal Palace: While he has only just signed on for Crystal Palace he has already started to make his mark. Against West Brom he contributed a goal and an assist. While he may not have done as much against Manchester United last weekend, he will have the chance to prove himself against Swansea this Sunday. This could be a risky pick, but, like many risks, if it pays off he’s a great addition at a cheap cost.

Charlie Adam – Stoke City: The number one reason that I’m putting Charlie Adam in here is that he has suddenly become a big game player. He has given the Potters 7 goals and 3 assists this season but has proven himself in big matches recently. He scored against Liverpool in January then followed that up with 2 goals away to Manchester United and two assists away to Southampton. With Stoke hosting Arsenal this weekend, he gets another chance to really shine against a top team.

Forwards

Daniel Sturridge – Liverpool: While I would be loathe to recommend getting rid of Luis Suarez, Sturridge has been in spectacular form recently and would be a great replacement for Sergio Aguero, if you haven’t dropped him yet. Sturridge is looking to break the Premier League record of scoring a goal in consecutive matches. He has now scored in 7 straight including two of which he has scored two bringing his season tally to 18. He has also added three assists in their last two matches. While a trip to Southampton is not an easy one, there’s a very good chance for him to get on the score sheet again.

Emmanuel Adebayor – Tottenham Hotspur: Adebayor has become central to the Spurs attacking lineup. I will say that this pick could be a risky one considering the fact that Tottenham just had a Europa League match on Thursday, but he did score two goals in that match, which will certainly boost his confidence. In the Premier League he is now up to 8 goals scored in just 11 matches. He has also added four assists and gotten credit for four clean sheets. He is rather in form at the moment with three goals and an assist in their last three matches. Tottenham host the struggling Cardiff City, which means that they have an excellent chance of piling on the goals.

I do hope that these tips and picks can give you some ideas for the next week and possibly even carry you into next weekend. The shortened number of matches and teams involved mean that these will be some tricky weeks. Trying to maximize your team’s scoring output could be difficult, especially if you need to take penalties to swap out players.
