Manchester City travel to Barcelona in the Second Leg of their round of 16 Champions League match this Wednesday. In my preview for this match-up I have included my prediction along with betting odds.
While the Blaugrana are coming into Wednesday’s match on the back of a loss, it could be argued that they were playing to avoid injury and in preparation for their Champions League fixture. They will take some comfort in the fact that they only allowed one goal in their La Liga match and that they will have an extra day of rest. Add to this the fact that they are playing at home and it is obvious why they are favorites.
The quadruple is now out of the question and if they cannot muster at least three goals at the Nou Camp on Wednesday, then any ideas of a treble are out the window as well. They have scored three goals in two of their away Champions League matches this season, including the 3-2 win over Bayern Munich.
Pellegrini attempted to rest players in their FA Cup quarter final match against Wigan, but this backfired when they ended up going down two goals. This meant that he then needed to put on Dzeko, Silva, and Milner, and was not able to give a break to any of his key attacking players. Kompany, Kolarov, and Zabaleta were able to get a rest, but they really need to get goals against Barcelona more than keep them out.
My pick is a Barcelona win to advance to the quarter finals. In this season Barcelona has allowed three goals in a home match just once. In fact they have allowed more than one goal at home in just two matches all season. While Manchester City has plenty of attacking power, they have struggled in these big matches, particularly in the Champions League.
