Champions League Predictions: Quarter Finals Second Leg

UEFA Champions League Predictions

The quarterfinals for the 2014 Champions League return again this Tuesday and Wednesday with teams participating in the second leg matches. There is still plenty to play for in terms of deciding which teams go through, with the exception, perhaps, of Real Madrid.

Will Manchester United and Chelsea have enough to get through to the semi-finals? Neither team is being given much of a chance for them to be moving on. Meanwhile, Real Madrid has put themselves in the pole position to move on with a chance of winning their tenth European Cup.

Read on for my predictions and previews.

Borussia Dortmund v Real Madrid Preview

The German 2013 Champions League finalist dug themselves into a deep hole in the first leg. With so many players out injured it is an uphill battle for them, and one that I just can’t see them doing. Real Madrid look tough at both ends of the pitch and should be able to tack on more goals to their aggregate after winning the first leg 3-0 at home.

Form: Dortmund (L, W, D, W, L, W) Real Madrid (W, L, L, W, W, W)

Pick: Real Madrid to win and qualify

Chelsea v Paris Saint Germain Preview

Chelsea’s 3-1 away loss at Paris Saint Germain leaves them needing goals while not giving up any more. While not entirely impossible, it is improbable. PSG showed how deadly they can be, even if two of the goals came from Chelsea errors. The fact that they were able to force errors from Chelsea, shows the fear they were able to instill in the Blues.

Form: Chelsea (L, W, W, L, L, W) PSG (W, W, W, W, W, W)

Pick: Chelsea to win, but PSG to qualify

Bayern Munich v Manchester United Preview

While Manchester United shocked the soccer world with their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, the chances of sitting back and getting a result a second time, seem fairly slim. Going into the second leg Bayern Munich will be without several key players including Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez, and Bastian Schweinsteiger. All the same, Bayern will likely start with a striker up front unlike last time. My pick is a shock Manchester United win. They should have several players available to be able to change up their tactics a bit more and attack (if Moyes takes the chance to utilize players like Adnan Januzaj).

Form: FC Bayern (W, W, W, D, D, L) Manchester United (W, W, L, W, D, W)

Pick: Manchester United to win and qualify

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona Preview

Atletico Madrid are certainly the dark horse of this competition, although, they really shouldn’t be by this point. They are a quality team that has shown time and time again that they should not be underestimated. They came through the first leg with a 1-1 draw, getting the crucial away goal, and were able to do so without their leading scorer, Diego Costa. I believe that Atletico Madrid have what it takes to advance and to beat Barcelona to do so.

Form: A. Madrid (W, W, W, W, D, W) Barcelona (W, W, W, W, D, W)

Pick: Atletico Madrid to win and qualify
