When Are They Going To Get Rid of These Pesky International Breaks?
With the international break coming up, I’m left wondering… what do I do this weekend? Fortunately for me it’s our anniversary this weekend so it actually kind of works out well. Even so, I can’t help but be annoyed by the break in play. Don’t worry though, I will still be providing posts during the next 2 weeks before matches resume on October 20th.
I’m sure that there are plenty of you that like watching international soccer and just appreciate the sport in general. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the sport, but I’m just much more passionate about supporting my club and I don’t like having my club’s season interrupted by games that could be played some other time.
Why not keep international soccer for the summer months? Or even have a winter break and let them play the matches then. That would all be fine with me. I still think it would benefit both club and country since it would then allow international teams to have more time together instead of having a game or two with a few training sessions to try to adjust to all new tactics.
It would provide more continuity for national sides to establish better relationships within the team setup. It would benefit the managers and their ability to work with players as well. Remember that these are players that nearly all play in different team setups with their club teams and sometimes are asked to do a different role with the national team.
I will watch the World Cup and the Euros when they come around, but I don’t go out of my way to watch the qualifiers. I’m sure that a lot of this has to do with the way that sports are in America and that I might get into it more if I lived in a different country. Perhaps someday the U.S. will wake up and realize how awesome soccer is and start to give it more importance. Maybe someday. Until that day I will continue to be annoyed by the international breaks and hope that make some changes.
If you do enjoy international soccer, why is it that you do? If you don’t like the interruption in the Premier League season, give a shout as well.
