Fantasy Friday: Week 12 Tips for Choosing the Cheap Options

Premier League Fantasy TipsFor this week’s Fantasy Premier League tips we have week 12 of the season and my focus will be on filling in the gaps with your weekend lineups. Most teams are fairly set on their high end top scoring players, but choosing players to fill in those lower price points isn’t always an easy choice.

I will be going through each position and choosing one to two players to look at swapping into your team for this weekend and possibly keeping them longer term as well. As always my focus is on players in the official Premier League fantasy game, but this tips can always be useful for any other fantasy soccer games you may participate in.

Goalkeepers:

Both Tim Krul and Rob Green are listed at 4.5 for their costs which puts them in the lowest price range for consistently starting goalkeepers. This weekend they face off against one another and have a fairly favorable string of matches coming up. Of the two I would recommend Krul who has four clean sheets and is playing at home with Newcastle one of the in form teams, having won four straight and being unbeaten in their last five.

Defense:

Southampton’s defenders remain a relatively low priced option with their highest, Nathaniel Clyne, listed at 5.8. They are one of the top in form teams and have allowed the fewest goals this season so choosing any of them is always a good decision at this point.

If you are looking for someone a little cheaper to fill a gap, Kieran Trippier could be the man you are looking for. Sure, he plays for Burnley, but he has already pulled in 39 points this season and is a bargain at 4.8. The great thing about Trippier is that he does get forward and is another defender that could get you points for assists as well as the occasional clean sheet ( he already has four this season). Better still, Burnley play Stoke, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Queens Park Rangers in their next string of matches, and those are all possible candidates for 0-0, especially with playing at home to Villa and Newcastle.

Midfield and Forwards:

My pick for the attacking third is to look at both Hull City and Crystal Palace. Both teams play at home this weekend against teams struggling for form. Both are teams that are have a point to prove against so called “superior” opposition.

For Hull’s midfield the two best options would be Ahmed Elmohamady at 4.9 or Mohamed Diame at 5.6. Diame will provide better chances for getting attacking points while Elmohamady is a cheaper option that has been consistent.

Up front for Hull there are really only two options at this time, the 6.9 Abel Hernandez or the cheaper option in Nikica Jelavic at 5.8. Jelavic has scored four compared to Hernandez at three goals, however, Jelavic has missed the last four matches which makes him a bigger risk.

Crystal Palace have several low priced options that could work out this weekend against Liverpool’s struggling back line. Frazier Campbell is leading these candidates with his 5.2 price as a forward who has three goals and an assist. In midfield the two best options would be Yannick Bolasie at 5.4 or for the better value you could go with Mile Jedinak who also has three goals and an assist.

Be sure to check that your team is set up for this weekend and be careful of the number of players who are either out injured or a doubt, because there are quite a few of them.
