Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights From the EPL Fixture between Manchester United V Stoke City On Saturday, October 20, 2012.

Result: Manchester United 4 – 2 Stoke City

Location: Old Trafford – Manchester United

Manchester United – 4 Stoke City – 2
Wayne Rooney (27’) Wayne Rooney (OG 11’)
Robin van Persie (44’) Michael Kightly (58’)
Danny Welbeck (46’)
Wayne Rooney (65’)

There’s much to say about this match. Wayne Rooney managed a hat trick of goals, even if one of them was his first own goal in the Premier League. This was a match of mixed outcomes for both sides. Stoke City did look dangerous at times and really took it to the United defense when they had possession. Manchester United did not do as much with their possession (64%) as many would have liked, but they did turn on their attacking more than they have in previous matches. They continue to look weak in the defensive third and Kightly’s goal was a testament to their lack of defending in the middle of the park that leaves the center backs vulnerable.

Danny Welbeck was rather frustrating at times. He had several great chances that he managed to put off target before getting his goal on a header from a beautiful Rooney cross into the box. Manchester United could’ve had 5, 6, or 7, but the 4-2 win was enough to keep them in second place on 18 points and just ahead of their cross town rivals, City, on goal difference (10-8).

The 2 goal win I predicted came to fruition, even if I was off by the total number of goals scored. I neglected to take into account United’s lack of defending this year.
