Premier League Predictions: Todd’s Week 35 EPL Match Picks

Week 35 Premier League PreviewsAt this point the Premier League title is basically done and dusted with Chelsea giving themselves a comfortable lead at the top of the table.

Chelsea are now at the point that they don’t even need to target wins, simply get points whether it be one or three. Facing Crystal Palace at home this weekend is a somewhat tricky match considering how Palace has been playing such dynamic attacking football lately. However, they have lost their last two matches in a row and face a Chelsea team that is bent on winning the league at any cost.

The rest of the weekend is made up of interesting matches that could cause reverberations throughout the table. None more so than the 10 am Saturday match between Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers. The Reds will certainly be happier returning to Anfield, but facing QPR at this point in the season is quite dangerous.

Queens Park Rangers may look like they are doomed for relegation, but they still have something to play for and hope to prove themselves in much the same way that Hull did in their midweek game against Liverpool.

At this point Liverpool look as if they are beatable. Their last win came against a lackluster Newcastle United which was followed up by three matches without a win in all competitions. They look like they are sleepwalking their way to the end of the season and if they aren’t careful they could drop out of the Europa League place. Perhaps this is exactly what they want to do.

Either way, facing Queens Park Rangers in this current form during which they have scored only five goals in their past six matches is not very encouraging.

The remainder of the matches on Saturday are those that could swing either way depending on which team decides they are ready to play. Southampton looked much better last weekend and still maintain hopes of reaching fifth place. A win for them could further doom Sunderland and bolster these hopes for themselves.

West Ham looked somewhat better last weekend, but facing Burnley will be a true test of how they want to finish the season. A mid table finish is already more or less guaranteed for the Hammers while Burnley are desperate for points. A draw seems the most likely outcome, although this largely depends on which West Ham team decides to turn up.

Similar statements could be made regarding Swansea and Stoke with both teams vying to finish in the top ten. They both have rather shaky form in recent weeks and this could swing either way, though I’m giving the advantage to Swansea at home.

The first match of the weekend could be a very interesting one indeed. Leicester’s 1-0 win last weekend took them out of the bottom three and facing struggling Newcastle they could move further up the table to within a point of Newcastle United.

Manchester United will certainly be looking to bounce back after their disappointing loss to Everton last weekend. Returning to the wide comforts of Old Trafford will certainly help, but facing West Bromwich Albion will not be an easy task. While I’m predicting a United win, I find it difficult to see them keeping a clean sheet, unless they decide to start Victor Valdes.

It is looking more and more clear that David de Gea is heading to Madrid this summer and this fact seems to be getting to him. Each week he looks more shaky in goal than the week before, not a good sign for an already weak United defense.

Tottenham v Man C has all the makings of an unpredictable match. Nine points separate the teams placed sixth and second in the table, but considering recent form this is one that could go either way. I’m predicting a win for Man C considering that they look to have gotten over a spate of losses, but Spurs have also looked better in their last two matches. Either way, there should be goals in this one.

To wrap up the weekend Arsenal travel to Hull in hopes of keeping pace with Man C. By the time they play on Monday the Gunners will know if a win will keep them level on points or give them the advantage of second place.

I’m fully expecting Arsenal to take all three points in this one, but then again, I thought the same thing about Liverpool. I will say that there is a marked difference between Liverpool and Arsenal, that being that Arsenal are playing well and know how to score goals.

With the season really winding down matches become ever more unpredictable, still, I would say that the reasoning for my picks is sound enough. Football is a sport that can lead to any sort of result for any team, which is what makes it such an enjoyable game to watch.
