Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights From the EPL Fixture between Sunderland V Newcastle United On Sunday, October 21, 2012.
Result: Sunderland 1 – 1 Newcastle United
Location: Stadium of Light
|Sunderland – 1||Newcastle United – 1|
|Demba Ba (OG 95’)||Yohan Cabaye (3’)|
Yohan Cabaye started out the scoring in only the third minute with a goal coming off the parried rebound of Shola Ameobi’s shot. In the 25th minute Cheick Tiote was sent off for a challenge on Steven Fletcher. I thought it was worthy of a yellow card, but a red was quite harsh. He was clearly going for the ball but his history of going in hard may have led to the red card.
Sunderland managed to pull themselves level off a set piece in the 85th minute with John O’Shea’s header being redirected by Steven Taylor and off of Demba Ba. The own goal was unfortunate for Newcastle, but a deserved goal for Sunderland. Sunderand made that dying minutes of the match very interesting as they really pushed forward to go for the win. James McClean came very close with a shot hit from distance. The referee gave Newcastle a free kick after Gutierrez dove to the ground claiming he was pulled, fortunately for everyone nothing came of it.
While Newcastle had held on to their lead for over 82 minutes, they will be grateful for the draw. My prediction of a 1 – 1 draw was accurate and both sides seemed to cancel each other out. It’s quite possible that Newcastle may have been able to get a win if they had 11 for the entire match.
