Premier League Predictions: Everton v Liverpool Match of the Week
I’m going to base my prediction for this match on the return of Marouane Fellaini. Liverpool will be hoping that Pepe Reina can return to goal despite Brad Jones doing well this past week. Fellaini has been inspirational for Everton this season and they have really struggled without him in the side. Everton will surely be missing Steven Pienaar as well following his red card last weekend. Everton will most likely adopt a counter attack style against Liverpool who have stuck with Rodgers philosophy of controlling the ball and keeping possession. The difficulty for Liverpool has been being able to do something productive with the possession. They have also given away goals this season and have a goal difference of -2.
I feel that last weekend Liverpool were lucky to come away with a win over Reading while Everton’s draw with QPR was a fair result. This match is one that is always heated with the 2 clubs stadiums less than a mile apart and separated only by Stanley Park. In the Premier League era Liverpool has the better run of results over their neighbors with 18 wins and 13 draws to Everton’s 9 wins. Last season Liverpool did the double over Everton by winning both Premier League matches (3-0 at Anfield and 0-2 at Goodison). Their last meeting in the FA Cup semi-final saw Liverpool win 2-1.
So, who will win this weekend? I’m predicting a 2 – 1 Everton win over Liverpool. Liverpool have been struggling to get goals all season while Everton has been doing well in that department while also being able to keep a positive goal difference. Once again, I am basing my prediction on Fellaini’s return and if he is fit then Everton should come out on top. Without Fellaini, I would predict a draw.
Prediction: Everton 2 – 1 Liverpool
