Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights From the EPL Fixture between Chelsea V Manchester United On Sunday, October 28, 2012.
Result: Chelsea 2 – 3 Manchester United
Location: Stamford Bridge – Chelsea
|Chelsea – 2||Manchester United – 3|
|Juan Mata (44’)||David Luiz (OG 4’)|
|Ramires (53’)||Robin van Persie (12’)|
|Javier Hernandez (75’)|
Manchester United started out the match well with Robin van Persie’s shot going off the post and rebounding into the net off of David Luiz in only the 4th minute. This was followed up in the 12th minute with a great strike inside the box from van Persie.
Following the two goals Chelsea turned on their attack and began to dominate the midfield. Their passing and movement was too much for United as they continued to put the ball into the box again and again while also winning corners. Chelsea finally got their first goal from a spectacular free kick taken by Juan Mata in the 44th minute. He was able to bend it up and around the wall into the far corner of David de Gea’s goal. Nothing to do about that kind of goal.
Chelsea stormed out in the second half and continued to win the midfield battle. Ramires was able to pull them level on a wonderfully taken header from a corner. United’s defensive weaknesses continued to be exploited.
The 63rd minute saw Branislav Ivanovic bring down Ashley Young as he was heading in one on one with the keeper. The straight red card took Chelsea down to 10 men.
In the 66th minute Fernando Torres was given his second yellow card for a dive in what was certainly his reputation going before him. Replays showed that Jonny Evans did catch him on the shin, but Torres’ delayed response seemed to be his undoing.
With Chelsea down to 9 men and losing their main striker, they threw everyone behind the ball. United finally put in their third after a mad scramble for the ball in which the ball nearly crossed the line. The ball eventually fell to Rafael who fired in where Javier Hernandez put the ball in. Replays did show that Chicharito was offside, though that call would’ve been very hard to make in real time.
Chelsea will certainly feel hard done by with this result. They dominated most of the match and United were on the back foot, looking desperate. The unfortunate part of the match will be the talk surrounding the officiating. With this Manchester United win it puts them second, only 1 point behind Chelsea, with 21 points.
