Premier League Scores: Result and Highlights from the EPL Fixture between Queens Park Rangers v Southampton on Saturday, November 17, 2012.
Result: QPR 1 – 3 Southampton
Location: Loftus Road – Queens Park Rangers
|QPR – 1||Southampton – 2|
|Junior Hoilett (49’)||Rickie Lambert (23’)|
|Jason Puncheon (45’+1’)|
|Anton Ferdinand (OG 83’)|
I predicted a draw with the thought that QPR would fight to keep themselves out of the bottom 3 and save Mark Hughes job. Southampton are in an identical situation trying to keep themselves out of the bottom three and save Nigel Adkins job. The weak defending of both clubs meant that there were sure to be goals in this one at some point.
Southampton came out the better side in the first half. Goals from Rickie Lambert (23rd minute) and Jason Puncheon (45th minute) took them into half time up 2 – 0. Queens Park Rangers decided to start out the second half by scoring in the 49th minute through Junior Hoilett.
The 83rd minute own goal by Anton Ferdinand spelled the end of the match for QPR and most likely Mark Hughes tenure with the Rangers. Whoever is brought in next will need to look at making changes with a squad that is filled with such a wide variety of players that it will be hard to get them playing as a team. QPR’s biggest problem this year has been the lack of any true leader. They have struggled throughout all areas of the pitch and will need someone to take charge of this team and keep them from slipping further.
Southampton’s win will push them up the table, but not yet out of the bottom three. It should save Nigel Adkins job for another week, at least and most likely seal Mark Hughes’ fate.
