Result: Tottenham 1 – 0 Swansea
Location: White Hart Lane – Tottenham
|Tottenham – 1||Swansea – 0|
|Jan Vertonghen (75’)|
What an interesting match. I thought that Swansea would bounce back from last week’s defeat, but they were rather poor for most of the match. The second half, and particularly the last 10 minutes or so, they started to do a little more, but Tottenham had the better game overall.
Tottenham had the only real good chance in the first half with a Kyle Walker strike that Gerhard Tremmel could not handle, but nobody could get the rebound in. Tremmel was the more underfire goal keeper as Tottenham had 29 shots managing to put 8 of those on target. Spurs shut down Swansea in the final third allowing only 3 shots and not a single one of them on target.
Possession was mostly 50/50, but Tottenham deserved to win even if they only got the one goal. Jan Vertonghen’s goal came when Swansea could not clear Tottenham’s free kick. The ball landed at Vertonghen’s feet where he quickly put the ball away to give Tottenham the lead.
The Tottenham win propels them above Everton into fourth place with 29 points, compared to Everton’s 27. Swansea stay in 10th place with 23 points.
